The Review
Ever see any of the Jason Bourne flicks? What I dig about those movies are the solid direction, the batshit-insane action and chase sequences, and the clever storylines. This movie, "Experiment", had elements of all of those traits that made the Bourne series such a fun ride. Ultimately, it falls short of being a good movie, but not before impressing you with some clever twists and turns.
Here's the lowdown: a man and a woman in a strange city are the subjects of some kind of experiment. Why are they there? What is their connection? And who is controlling the experiment? These are the questions that our leads must answer in this puzzling (yet, sometimes brilliant in its execution) psychological thriller.
Shot in Prague, the movie looks fantastic. The musical score is above average for this type of film, and it is well shot. The acting is really good, especially from our leads (John Morgan and Georgina French....nice!). It really should have been a better film, but where it falls short is in its pacing. It suffers because it is so slow to get anywhere. The majority of the movie is our leads bumping into each other, not knowing if they are friends or enemies, and jumping from one part of the city to another. It's repetitive and slow. It drags the movie down so much I got bored and found myself nodding off a couple of times.
But then the plot thickens, as they say, and things begin to get interesting again near the end. With some clever twists things begin to pick up and I was drawn back into the movie, but it was a case of too little, too late. By the time the credits rolled I was left feeling a bit let down and unimpressed. It's not a bad movie.....but the best I can say about it is that it's mediocre.
Oh, the potential this film had. It's actually quite sad to think about it. This really could've been a great little thriller, but in the end I was bored almost to sleep. There's just not enough here to make me want to recommend it. Once again, it's not terrible.....it's just not that good either.
