Probably the best horror film I've seen this year, but it still has it's faults.

The Review

Wow.

Seriously, this is the best horror film I've seen all year. With a ton of low/no budgets, multi million dollar budgets, and PG-13 poopers, THE SIGNAL stands out among them as a slightly original concept executed nearly perfect.

THE SIGNAL is broken down into three stories, ala Pulp Fiction and it actually works. The first one is heavy drama and gets you hooked, doing a great time sinking you into this heavy heavy horror film and steadily creeps a sensation of claustrophobia into you. You're hooked.

The second story is more humor based, so it takes you away from the tense feeling that was created with the first. Comedy/Horror is really hard to do, which is why there's very few films that gain interest doing it. This one should be lumped in at the top of the heap. It hits the humor on all points, and I loved it. The only thing that I didn't love is that it took this super tight suspense thriller vibe from the first story and took it away ...to make you laugh.

Within the third story we find more of the first in it. It's tense and keeps your eyes fully aroused, but it does have some third act pacing problems. This is where the meat should be, and it's really not. It gets exciting, and it stays fresh, but there are a couple really slow points that almost lost me.

If you have no idea what the movie as a whole is about, then allow me to explain. A mysterious signal is broadcasting over everything. TVs, phones, radios, you name it..it's there.

And it's making you crazy. So crazy you want to kill.

And you do.

Through it's faults, I love this movie. It's great and really re-watchable, and I'd highly recommend a buy on this one when it hits store shelves in June.
