The Review

Around 6 years ago I was in a local thrift store digging through the records, trying to find that missing cog in my hair metal collection. Finding nothing, I walked over to the book section. I'd been reading a lot lately since after a bad break up that coupled with whiskey and records really made me happy.

Skimming through the paperbacks I come across the book the movie's based on. Seems interesting enough, so I purchase my twenty nine cent paperback and head out. That night I start to read it, and I didn't put it down until early the next morning. It had me.

But this isn't a review of the book. This is a review about the movie.

The movie is probably the closest book adaptation I've ever seen. It's also one of the best movies I've seen in my life. Finally, after terrible movie and terrible movie...I get this! THANK YOU, MOVIE GODS! YOU DON'T HATE ME! I was seriously starting to think I was in some lost season of Mystery Science Theater.

Okay, for those that don't know and haven't bothered to read the plot summery the movie is roughly about Christopher McCandless, a recent college grad who wanted to live on the land for a while. He hands his savings over to a charity, gives away his possessions, and hits the road.

This is the gist of what you get in just about anything you'll read on the movie. What you won't get is one of the real reasons he roughed it, becoming a 'tramp', as they say. His family life was for shit. He grew up watching his parents abuse each other and pride themselves on material possessions, and all that other yuppie bullshit. It goes deeper, way deeper, but if I told you everything then you wouldn't want to watch the movie, would you?

You sassy devil.

Everything about this movie is must see material. From the shots, to the landscape, to the acting, to the..fuck! Everything. Every god damned thing.

It comes out on dvd March 4th and it is a MUST BUY.

FUN FACT! It sucks that I have too much to say about a shitty movie, but can't find the words to express total and absolute wonderment after seeing a fantastic film like this.
