The Review
When I was 10 my mom got me a VHS copy of this flick which I watched over and over again until the tape stopped working. In what was supposed to be his breakout role, Terence Hill played Dave Speed a newbe cop that gains super powers after being covered by a red powder during a nuclear explosion. Hell yeah, “Super Fuzz” is nothing but fun cheese that puts a huge smile on my face.
Speed and his partner Sergeant Dunlop (Ernest Borgnine) spend most of the movie running around stopping criminals in their tracks, but if Speed sees the color red his super powers give out on him. Soon crime boss Torpedo (Marc Lawrence) gets tired of Speed busting his men, and frames him for the murder of Sergeant Dunlop. So the the police keep trying unsuccessfully to excute Speed, but not even the electric chair is a match for “Super Fuzz.”
The special effects in this move are very primitive compared to what can be done in films today adding a certain air of retro cool to the flick. The bad overdubs don’t even detract from the charm of this ‘80s b-masterpiece. I couldn’t get enough of officer speed when I was 10, and now that I’m 35 not much has changed. Fun, goofy, warm, and hilarious are words that come to mind when I think about this movie.
If your up late watching cable and this flick is in rotation, then stop whatever it is your doing and park your ass in front of the tube. Or if you happen to see a VHS copy in a bargain bin pick it up because “Super Fuzz” is a killer b-film.
