The Review
Science fiction is one of my favorite genres and when mixed with horror it's one that I can't resist. "Without Warning" is a film that I watched when I was a kid, and for some reason the images of the Alien standing in the darkness stuck with me.
The film's plot isn't an extremely strong one so I'm not going to go into great detail explaining it. It opens with a pair of hunters who are attacked by organic alien frisbees and then it follows a van full of teenagers looking to get naked and frolic in the woods. Unfortunately the teenagers don't get to have much fun because soon enough the alien frisbees come flying through the air killing two of them. The other kids escape to a local tavern complete with the prerequisite nutcase. Then they meet up with alien hunter Joe Taylor (Jack Palance) and the adventure begins.
I have to say the this flick didn't hold up as well as I hoped it was going to, but I enjoyed it non-the-less. My main complaint is that the story never really explained anything. Now, I'm a fan of filmmakers that let their audience think for themselves but when it comes to science fiction and horror I like a little more meat in the pot. Jack Palance on the other hand rocked this flick, and for his performance alone the flick is worth watching. Also the alien is awesome! He is really tall and has a huge blue head.
They don't make flicks like this one anymore and it really is a shame. Films like this were what I lived for when I was a kid. The kinds of flicks that came on cable late at night when most of the world had long since gone to bed. "Without Warning" is a fun flick that every fan of late-night horror marathons should try to track down. It isn't the best flick out there, but it's still a killer film.
