The Review
Michael Westen (Jeffery Donovan) is a spy, only during a mission he finds out that he has been burned, which is just spy talk for your ass is fired. So he fights his way out of a serious beating, but blacks out on his way to the states, only to wake up in Miami, a city he hates. The fact that he doesn't like Miami makes his situation all the more miserable because evidently once a spy has been burned, said spy has to stay in the city he was dropped in. The first thing Michael does when he wakes up is enlist the help of a few friends.
Fiona "Fi" Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar) an ex-IRA member that loves guns as much as she loves love guns helps with the heavy artillery, and is also sweet on Michael. While Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) is a former agent that takes any gig he can get between freeloading on rich beach hotties. The three of them spend their time trying to figure out who burned Michael and freelance to raise cash until they do. Also rounding out the cast is Michael's chain smoking mom Madeline (Sharon Gless) who is quite a scene stealer.
The series plays out a little like a modern revamp of "The A-Team." Fiona taking the place of Mr. T, Sam sliding into the Murdock character, and Michael taking on both Hannibal and Face. The Van is replaced by a Dodge Charger, but they still "love it when a plan comes together".
For those of you that haven't noticed already I'm a television whore, and "Burn Notice" is one of my favorite shows gracing the airwaves with its presence. Not because of its realistic portrayal of a burned spy, but because it doesn't try to be anything more than a fun show. "Burn Notice" is positively a killer film!
Video: The video is presented in anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen format and looked great on my 42" television. The scenery in "Burn Notice" is beautiful as well as colorful, and every color came through crystal clear.
Audio: The 5.1 surround sound was music to my ears.
Special Features:
Commentaries - The commentary tracks are pretty cool and in some cases are scene specific. Creator Matt Nix and Jeffery Donovan talk quite a bit, as does Bruce Campbell who is always funny. The female cast members are there as well but don't talk quite as much. I'm not a huge fan of commentary tracks, but I couldn't pass up a chance to listen to Bruce talk, and it was worth every minute.
Gag Reel - This short gag reel has quite a bit of Bruce footage in it and is worth it for his fans.
Character Montage - A bunch of clips of each character that was kinda useless and boring.
Girls Gone Burn Notice - A montage of Miami hotties that focuses on the T&A!
Audition Footage - Jeffrey Donovan and Gabrielle Anwar reading together. It's kinda boring, but not terribly long so it doesn't really matter.
“Saving Grace” Music Video - The shows theme song performed by Everlast.
