Attack of the Killer Grannies

‘Its like a goddamn Grandma massacre in here!’

That sums up the humorous Zombie Town by Damon Lemay, a bloody massacre of a movie with a truckload of elderly Zombies. Killer leech-like parasites from the netherworld infest their human victims and turn them into zombies, so the college aged kids in town must take on the town gone mad, and restore order. The group is led by Jake (Adam Hose), a slacker with potential out for revenge after the zombies ate his brother. He, and his former girl Alex (Brynn Lucas) take on every last zombie in order to save themselves, and their town.

The extremely gory side of Zombie Town is not necessarily my thing, but I must admit ‘ they got their moneys worth from their make up effects team. There are plenty of Brains and guts to go around for everyone, and splattery gunshots galore. This movie would be more in line with the Return of the living Dead side of the Zombie movie world.

Zombie Town never takes itself too seriously, and the intense gore is tempered with plenty of humor by the supporting cast. I always admire a film with spirit and a shortage of funds. I have never seen so many of our older generation play in a zombie movie before, it kind of added a bit of Hot Fuzz sensibility to it (all the older brits shooting off shotguns & machine guns). You could call this a rated R version of an extended Outer Limits episode, directed by John Waters. With Halloween around the corner, this would probably add to any home spun zombie fest.

I know I made many comparisons to other classic movies, but since the film was a different twist on the zombie genre it was hard to describe without referencing other films.
