In 1994, a lot of things happened…I graduated High School, I drank legally for the first time in my life, and an amazing little gem of a film came about called “Night of the Demons 2”. The movie was the sequel to the surprisingly eerie and somewhat serious “hit” movie from 1988, titled of course, "Night of the Demons."

The sequel takes place a few years (we are led to assume) after what took place in the original film. We find that there is a Catholic school down the street from the haunted house where our evil but sexy as hell villain, Angela Franklin (Amelia Kinkade) resides. For whatever reason, Angela now just hangs out at the house, sleeps in a casket (!?) and waits for people to come by so she can fuck with them. It’s October 31st, and we find out that on top of the three gorgeous catholic school girls (Cristi Harris as Bibi, Zoe Trilling as Shirley and Christine Taylor as Terri) we also have Melissa “Mouse” Franklin (Merle Kennedy) as the sister of Angela.

While the “cool” kids are off talking about the legend of Hull House, we meet Perry (Bobby Jacoby) who may or may not have a thing for Mouse, but definitely digs the occult and thinks that he has summoned a demon by reading a book, (which looks a lot like the book in “Ghoulies”) and he sees Angela looking back at him in a mirror. After the sexy co-eds and a couple of guys (who always sit in their dorm room and stare at the girls with binoculars) get banned from the Halloween dance by the ruler/sword wielding Sister Gloria, they meet up with a couple of loser guys that Shirley knows, grab Mouse and head to Angela’s Hull House for their own Halloween party.

While at the party Shirley vandalizes Hull House, (which releases Angela’s spirit, I guess…?), plans a sacrifice with a cat (!?) and they all couple off to get busy. After some nasty pranks played by Shirley and her loser friends, Angela has had enough of this fucking around, shows herself to Mouse and they all head back to the campus… Unknowing to the group, Angela has joined them by hiding herself in a tube of lipstick that Bibi steals from the house and terrorizes/possesses the students, lures them back to Hull House and is FINALLY defeated by the 1-2 punch of Sister Gloria and Father Bob with a little help from Perry and the surviving students.

Night of the Demons 2 is a perfect example of sequels that are better than the original. Where as the original "Night of the Demons" is pretty much a straight up a “kids in a haunted house” kind of film it takes itself much more serious than the sequel. Part two is pretty funny. Thankfully, it’s not in a “Naked Gun” kind of way…try to imagine the satire of “Evil Dead”, the subtle (but effective f/x) of “Night of the Creeps” and the T & A of an 80’s high school comedy and you have a pretty good idea of what "Night of the Demons 2" is about. You’ll either love it or hate it.

Considering the movie is from 1994, the effects are pretty good. There is some early CGI effects, some obvious miniatures and some excellent make-up work. The closest comparison I can make would be “Nightmare on Elm Street 3”. We’ve got female demons raping ugly dudes, tubes of lipstick that turn into snake-like creatures that go up girls’ skirts, breasts that turn into hands, kids turning into bubbly goo, guys playing basketball with their own heads, demon cocks, kung fu nuns AND Amelia Kinkade in some sexy black contact lenses seducing anyone who looks at her.

Here’s the deal, in case you didn’t already get this... I fucking love this movie. If there was ever a movie that deserved a North American DVD release-it is this one. Part one has been released MANY times…EVEN the DREADFUL part 3 has been released (and is in the bargain bin at almost any Best Buy in North America). Fuck, I would even settle for a box set and just use part three as a coaster – it’s THAT good. For now, we have Ebay or your local mom and pop video store that is being run out of business. Go buy this film. If you don’t like it, send it to me, my VHS copy is wearing out and I’ll be damned if I want to go a day without this movie in my collection.

I knew from the moment my mom’s boyfriend taped this movie off of cable for me I would be forever in debt to the guy…even if I didn’t like him. Thankfully my mom didn’t kick me out of her basement at 18 like she promised she would otherwise like you, I may have never seen this little gem.
