Robin Shou, known primarily from the awesomeness that was ‘Mortal Kombat’, and the abortion that was ‘Mortal Kombat: Annihilation' has finally picked up the other role perfect for him. He will be playing Gen in the movie, a role originally filled by Rick Yune. While waiting for ‘Mortal Kombat 3’ this is the perfect opportunity to watch Robin kick some serious ass again. Writer Justin Marks discusses adapting the “complex” story that is ‘Street Fighter’:

“A movie based on the Street Fighter game? But it doesn’t even have a plot!”
I’ve heard this line before. A few times. Whenever I talk to people who don’t know much about Street Fighter, it’s always the first thing they say.
But any true fan of Street Fighter knows about its rich world, its colorful palette of characters, and complicated web of varying interests and betrayals. No story? You’re just not paying attention.
The way I approached the writing of Street Fighter’s script was simple. Throw away everything and start with character. For just a moment, forget about the fights, forget about the costumes, forget about the flaming Hadoukens… go back to the essence of what the characters are about."

Ok so basically he’s taking away everything that is essential to the ‘Street Fighter’ series. It’s stuff like this that explains why video-game-based films are shit, because writers get an idea that “I can make this even better by getting rid of everything that makes that game cool and the people will love it.” Guess again.
